Simplifhy, ESE Engineering Services for Energy and CED INGEGNERIA have joined forces to create H2EPIC, the first Italian consortium dedicated entirely to green hydrogen.
With a team of over 70 professionals, long-standing collaborations and projects completed in more than 50 countries, H2EPIC aims to be a strategic partner throughout the lifecycle of hydrogen projects — from feasibility studies to final construction — offering Owner’s Engineering and EPCM services.
A single point of contact in hydrogen engineering
H2EPIC (Hydrogen Engineering Partners Italian Consortium) brings together three leading Italian companies specializing in hydrogen:
- Simplifhy
- ESE Engineering Services for Energy
- CED INGEGNERIA
The consortium was established to respond to the growing need for comprehensive expertise in the green hydrogen sector. By providing a single point of contact, H2EPIC can manage projects of any size or complexity for both italian and european clients.
An integrated and multidisciplinary offering
H2EPIC covers the full hydrogen value chain, from production and storage to applications in transport, industry, heating, and power generation.
The consortium provides support across all disciplines involved in hydrogen projects: process engineering, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control, piping, layout and civil engineering.
The consortium offers a range of services, including:
- Consulting & Engineering – feasibility studies, basic engineering, and detailed engineering, with support for approvals, permits, and safety studies.
- Pilot and Innovative Solutions – rapid development of prototypes and customized solutions with minimal investment.
- Service & Operation – maintenance and operational management of hydrogen assets.
- Owner’s Engineering – support in preparing tender documents, aligning offers, negotiation, design review, and project management.
- Project Management and Construction Supervision – EPCM services, site management, and commissioning assistance.
Three partners, one shared vision
“The birth of H2EPIC represents a fundamental strategic step to consolidate Italian engineering expertise in the hydrogen sector,” say Sergio Torriani, CEO of Simplifhy. “We built this consortium starting from an already solid and long-term collaboration between the partners. The goal is to offer the market a reliable reference point, capable of managing projects of different sizes with the flexibility of our individual companies and the strength of an integrated team of over 70 professionals. The energy transition requires structured industrial partners, and H2EPIC proposes itself as a concrete enabler of this transformation.”
Michele Ferrazzini, CEO of ESE Engineering Services for Energy, adds: “We are excited to bring Italian engineering excellence in the field of hydrogen to new foreign markets, backed by the mutual trust consolidated over time among ESE, Simplifhy, and CED. The consortium is born with a clear competitive advantage: an integrated and multidisciplinary approach. Our long experience in the power sector and in managing complex projects, combined with a strong ability to adapt to the specific needs of each client, constitutes the true value proposition we offer as H2EPIC.”
“Our presence in the design sector for industrial and energy infrastructure is expanding to include hydrogen production projects, leveraging our decades of experience in power generation plants. The collaboration with hydrogen process partners and electrical design partners helps us complete the disciplines of interest for the development and execution of complex hydrogen projects,” remarks Luigi Mora, CEO of CED INGEGNERIA.
Over 70 experts driving green hydrogen projects
The consortium draws on a team of over 70 experts, including more than 30 senior experts with over 10 years of experience: project managers, project engineers, process engineers, electrical and mechanical engineers, I&C engineers, layout and piping engineers, civil engineers, as well as document controllers and specialized consultants.
This dynamic and flexible structure allows for comprehensive support for projects of any complexity, from small skid units up to electrolyzer plants larger than 100 MW, from hydrogen production to refueling for mobility.
International experience and key projects
The collaboration between ESE Engineering Services for Energy and CED INGEGNERIA boasts over 30 years of history, while Simplifhy has been collaborating with the two partners since its founding in 2021. Together, the three companies have completed projects in more than 50 countries, gaining extensive experience with international standards and procedures.
Among the references claimed by the consortium participants are important projects such as:
- Hydrogen Valleys – design of 10 Hydrogen Valleys from 1 to 4 MW, with detailed engineering for 3 projects.
- Refueling Stations (HRS) – engineering and construction supervision for 5 stations, including the design of Europe’s largest refueling station for ENI in Venice and the project validation for refueling stations for regional trains (EVA).
- Large-Scale Plants – validation of feasibility studies up to 600 MW in Southern Italy, 100 MW in Finland, and up to 300 MW in Sicily.
- Skids and Systems – design of H2/CH4 mixers of 30 MWth, hydrogen purification systems, and dehumidification plants up to 1 MW.
